MahoganyBooks Announces Relocation Plans, Seeks New Home in DMV Area
S For Story/10636351
WASHINGTON - s4story -- MahoganyBooks, a beloved fixture in the Ward 8 Anacostia Art Center, today announced plans to relocate within the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia) area. The bookstore ceased operations at its Anacostia location in DC on August 31st as the Anacostia Art Center prepares for an 18-month closure beginning in January 2025.
"We are incredibly thankful for being part of the Anacostia community. For the past seven years, we've enjoyed our time here, connecting with readers, local authors, and supporters," said Ramunda Young, co-owner of MahoganyBooks. "However, as the Art Center closes for renovations, we are looking for a location that better fits the needs of our business and customers."
The decision to relocate their DC store came after careful consideration of various factors, including parking challenges and the changing landscape, which no longer meets the business's needs. MahoganyBooks is currently discussing with brokers and exploring new properties in the DMV area. While their next location is yet to be determined, the owners are intentional about finding a space that aligns with their mission.

In the search for a new home, MahoganyBooks emphasizes the importance of community partnership. "We are looking for a middle ground where property owners and developers understand the value that MahoganyBooks brings to the community. We're open to conversations with those who share our vision and are willing to invest in creating a space where we can continue to thrive," added Derrick Young, co-owner of MahoganyBooks.
MahoganyBooks invites interested parties to reach out with potential locations or partnership opportunities that may align with its vision for the future.
During the transition, MahoganyBooks will continue serving its customers via its thriving National Harbor location, online, and at the National Airport within The Goods DCA. The team encourages the community to stay connected through its social media channels. A special live announcement will be made via Instagram at 6:30 PM tonight, where additional details about the transition and future plans will be shared.
