More Than a Meal: Meals on Wheels South Florida Delivers Thanksgiving Joy to 400 Homebound Seniors
S For Story/10706591
PLANTATION, Fla. - s4story -- This Thanksgiving, Meals on Wheels South Florida (MOWSOFLO) volunteers aren't just delivering meals; they're delivering a critical connection. Older adults often face the holidays feeling isolated, but a warm meal, a safety check, and a friendly face can change that completely.
With gratitude to community partners including Cigna Healthcare, The American Sewing Guild, The Coral Springs Quilt Guild, and The Southern Stars Quilt Guild, MOWSOFLO is intensifying outreach to Broward County's most vulnerable homebound seniors this holiday.
Who: Nearly 400 homebound seniors who would otherwise spend Thanksgiving alone.
What: MOWSOFLO staff and volunteers fan out across the region on Thanksgiving morning, delivering a complete traditional dinner — roasted turkey, savory stuffing, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and pumpkin pie — along with homemade placemats and a friendly holiday hello.
More on S For Story
For volunteers, this is more than a delivery run; it's a cherished tradition, now in its 38th year. Teams gather early to pick up routes tailored to their zip codes, finishing all visits by 11:00 a.m. It's a powerful reminder that a knock on the door and a shared smile can wrap an entire community in warmth.
When: Thursday, November 26, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Meals on Wheels South Florida's Distribution Warehouse | 6741 W. Sunrise Blvd, Bay A-6 | Plantation, FL 33313
Those who would like to register to volunteer or make a financial gift for Thanksgiving may do so at mowsoflo.org/holidayopportunities.
