KENNEWICK, Wash. - s4story -- Kennewick, WA — The Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) proudly announces H. W. "Buzz" Bernard as its 2025 Writer of the Year, honoring his outstanding contributions to military literature and the writing community.

Bernard, a former U.S. Air Force weather officer, is best known for award-winning military novels including When Heroes Flew, Storms over Normandy, and Down a Dark Road. His writing is acclaimed for its gripping narratives, historical depth, and emotional power.

"Buzz Bernard's storytelling is bold, authentic, and deeply respectful of those who serve," said MWSA President John Cathcart. "His support of fellow writers and commitment to craft make him a shining example of what MWSA stands for."

Bernard's literary success follows a decorated professional career, first in the Air Force and later as a senior meteorologist with The Weather Channel. He brings real-world experience and accuracy to every story he writes.

He is also a longtime member of MWSA and an active mentor, helping other veterans and military family members find their voices through writing.

The Writer of the Year Award will be officially presented at the 2025 MWSA Awards Banquet, held September 27, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri.
