BK International Education Consultancy Offers SMART Cities Challenge for Clayton County Elementary Students
JONESBORO, Ga. - May 15, 2019 - s4story -- BK International Education Consultancy is set to host the STEM Immersion Academy, a summer enrichment program, for Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) students. The camp is part of CCPS' Summer Thrive, Inspire, Motivate and Engage (TIME) Programs during the month of June which allow students to participate in fun and engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning opportunities.
The STEM Immersion Academy: SMART Cities Challenge will empower 200 youth advocates in grades 3-5 and introduce them to issues impacting cities now and in the future. Using scientific and mathematical principles, students will redesign Clayton County into a SMART Community. SMART Cities are urban areas that use technology to collect data, manage assets, and control resources. As the world becomes more urbanized, SMART Cities can improve the economic, environmental, and social aspects of its residents' lives.

Over the course of the 2-week program, students will interview local STEM Career professionals and local community leaders, including Clayton County Public Schools' Superintendent Dr. M. Beasley, to learn about their roles and the community challenges they solve in their careers.
Additionally, students will learn more about topical issues of the environment and technology from off-site learning experiences. There, students will gain first-hand experience in coding and local environmental issues. The students will utilize data from the panel as well as data from Clayton County, other SMART cities, and field trips to create a final urban innovation design.
This is the second year that BKIEC has collaborated with CCPS' Summer T.I.M.E. Programs. In 2018, approximately 75 elementary through high school students and 8 CCPS teachers explored topics relating to aeronautics and aviation, including aeronautical engineering, physics, and the science of flight. Students and teachers rounded out their experience with a field trip to iFly, Atlanta's indoor skydiving facility.
