This Christmas 2025, Virginia Veterans Can Make Their Book For Free

Virginia Department of Veterans Services Grant Enables Free Print-On-Demand Book Vouchers for U.S. Veterans Living in Virginia Through Words of Veterans a U.S. Veteran-led Organization.
QUANTICO, Va. - s4story -- Virginia — This Christmas season, Virginia veterans are being offered a powerful and lasting gift: the opportunity to preserve their military stories in a professionally printed hardcover book—at no cost to them.
Alex K. Sebby, a former enlisted U.S. Marine who served from 1999 to 2003, has developed Words of Veterans, an online storytelling tool designed to help U.S. Veterans document their service, memories, and life experiences in their own words. Drawing upon best practices and resources from the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress, the platform guides veterans step-by-step through writing their personal history and transforming it into a beautifully bound book that can be shared with family for generations.

In the spirit of Christmas 2025, Sebby is announcing a special initiative made possible through a grant from the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. The grant funds 1,000 vouchers for any U.S. Veteran currently living in Virginia to have their book printed and shipped completely free of charge.
"This is about honoring service and making sure veterans' voices are never lost," said Sebby. "So many incredible stories disappear when they're never written down. This program ensures those stories are preserved, respected, and passed on—especially during a season that's about reflection, gratitude, and family."
Veterans who participate will use the Words of Veterans online platform to write their story at their own pace. Once complete, the story is professionally printed into a high-quality hardcover book and shipped directly to the veteran. These books often become cherished family heirlooms, giving children and grandchildren a deeper understanding of their loved one's service and sacrifices.

To qualify, veterans must live in Virginia and redeem the voucher before the program deadline. All books must be printed and shipped no later than March 31, 2026. Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis until the 1,000 grants are claimed.
Veterans can redeem their free book using the voucher code: FreeBook
Sebby, who signs every release with the Marine Corps motto Semper Fi, emphasized that this project is deeply personal. "As a Marine Corps Veteran, I understand how difficult it can be to talk about service—but also how important it is. This is my way of giving back to the community that shaped who I am."
Veterans, family members, and caregivers are encouraged to share this opportunity widely during the holiday season.
