North Carolina Central University Division of Student Affairs Presents Ready to Soar Conference
S For Story/10459793
In partnership with G&S Business Communications, the conference is designed to provide networking and real-life advice to those interested in various communication fields
DURHAM, N.C. - s4story -- North Carolina Central University's Division of Student Affairs will present the second annual Ready to Soar Conference on Saturday, January 16th, beginning at 11 am. The conference will be broadcast virtually on Zoom and Facebook Live and is open to NCCU students and the general public. The title sponsor for this year's conference is G&S Business Communications (http://www.gscommunications.com/).
The Ready to Soar Conference is presented by NCCULife, a program out of the Division's Marketing and Communications department. Outside of the conference, the NCCULife program allows students to work alongside the Marketing department on assignments for the 17 diverse departments of the Division of Student Affairs. Each student involved can gain internship credit and cover exciting University events such as Rock the Lyceum, sporting events, and homecoming.

Last February, the program held the first conference designed to appeal to students interested in networking, tutorials on popular tools, and how to get started in the industry and gain employment. In 2020, NCCULife launched monthly sessions for students to learn from creatives across the nation about their field of expertise. Notable speakers include Kia Robinson of Weber Shandwick in New York, and NCCU alumna Dominique Jones of EMPIRE in California.
"I desired to provide opportunities to BIPOC students to meet others that look like them working in the industries they are interested in," says Chelsey Holts, Director of Marketing and Communications in the Division of Student Affairs. "Often, the lack of diverse faces can deter young professionals from applying to specific places or deciding to pursue certain fields. My ultimate goal is for students to see diverse personnel in positions of influence, network, and learn from them. This conference can help students get their foot in the door at their dream agency based on connecting with the right person."

"It is an honor to work with North Carolina Central University and NCCULife," said Nicholas Love, Vice President of Digital Marketing at G&S. "As an HBCU graduate myself, I understand the importance of forging relationships with programs offered by HBCUs relevant to our industry; which exposes our business to a broader range of diverse talent. This event is just the beginning of our partnership, where we hope to build a relationship with a university that is fostering the exact talent we are looking for; the next generation of marketers and communicators.
