Oceanview Financials Releases Mid-Year Financial Health Checklist for Florida Restaurants
S For Story/10698857
Created to help restaurant owners act before critical Q3 and Q4 deadlines
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - s4story -- Oceanview Financials Inc., a Florida accounting firm serving the restaurant and hospitality industries, today announced the release of a Mid-Year Financial Health Checklist for restaurant operators. The checklist gives owners a framework for assessing their financial position before the most consequential tax deadlines of the year.
"The decisions that affect what a restaurant owner pays in taxes are made now, not in December. This checklist puts the most important mid-year financial questions in one place so operators can act while there is still time to make a difference." — Johan Gutierrez, Founder, Oceanview Financials
Why Mid-Year Is the Critical Window
Three deadlines make July and August the most important planning months of the second half of 2026. The Q3 estimated tax payment is due September 15 — if profitability has shifted since January, the payment should be adjusted now to avoid underpayment penalties of approximately 7 to 8% annually. The SIMPLE IRA establishment deadline is October 1 — operators who miss it lose the 2026 tax year benefit entirely. Equipment placed in service before December 31 qualifies for full first-year expensing under Section 179; equipment that is ordered but not yet in service does not.

The Eight-Point Checklist
- Food Cost Review — Compare food cost percentage against current invoice pricing — not last year's numbers.
- Tip Reporting Accuracy — Confirm all reported tip income is captured in payroll records monthly.
- FICA Tip Credit (Section 45B) — Verify the credit is tracked monthly, not estimated at year-end. On $300,000 in reported tips, this credit is worth approximately $22,950 — and is among the most frequently missed.
- Delivery Platform Reconciliation — Confirm third-party platform settlements are reconciled against POS records monthly. 1099-K discrepancies are a leading audit trigger.
- Estimated Tax Payment Review — Assess Q1 and Q2 payments against actual 2026 results and adjust Q3 accordingly.
- Section 179 Equipment Timing — Identify needed purchases — kitchen equipment, POS, HVAC — that can be placed in service before December 31 under the $2.5 million 2026 expensing limit.
- Retirement Plan Deadline — SIMPLE IRA must be established by October 1 for the 2026 tax year. SEP IRA deadline extends to the filing date.
- Cash Flow Forecast — Update the 13-week rolling forecast to reflect current costs and anticipated holiday season revenue.
