Collaboration integrates OpenStax content into the Microsoft Learning Zone
HOUSTON - s4story -- OpenStax, a provider of affordable instructional technologies and the world's largest publisher of OER, has partnered with Microsoft to integrate its trusted content into Microsoft's latest learning innovation, Microsoft Learning Zone. Available on Microsoft Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft Learning Zone aims to provide educators and students with responsible AI technology and peer-reviewed educational content to support learning.
This partnership marks a step forward for both organizations in making high-quality, personalized education more accessible for all students. Microsoft Learning Zone, originally announced by Microsoft at BETT 2025, utilizes on-device AI to generate interactive lessons for students. The integration with OpenStax content means educators can safely rely on OpenStax's digital library of 80 openly licensed titles to create effective and engaging learning experiences, without needing to vet content independently.

"At Microsoft, we're committed to empowering educators with technology that saves time and enhances learning," said Deirdre Quarnstrom, vice president of Microsoft Education. "Through our partnership with OpenStax, we're combining the power of on-device AI in Copilot+ PCs with OpenStax's trusted and diverse peer-reviewed content to help educators quickly create high-quality, personalized, engaging lessons. We're excited about how this collaboration will empower classrooms globally."
This integration combines the power and potential of responsible AI in education with high-quality content that has been used by 13,569 K-12 schools and 71% of U.S. colleges and universities.
With Microsoft Learning Zone, educators will have access to a library of pre-built lessons or they can create their own by uploading instructional materials. The platform provides immediate feedback to students, including presenting the material differently if a question is answered incorrectly.
"At OpenStax, our mission is to make an amazing education accessible to all," said Richard G. Baraniuk, founder and director of OpenStax. "That's why we're excited to integrate our trustworthy, peer-reviewed content with Microsoft's AI technology through the Microsoft Learning Zone. Together, we aim to help more instructors and their students access engaging, effective learning experiences in new and dynamic ways.
