Preeclampsia and Hurricane Survivor Gives Birth at the Same Hospital Where Her Father Passed Away

How One Mother's Journey Led to an Empowering Guide for Modern Mothers
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - s4story -- Asheville, NC – In a powerful and deeply personal journey of resilience, loss, and triumph, author Dori Moore has released her new book, 7 Real Truths About Modern Motherhood. The book offers honest, research-backed guidance and emotional validation for mothers at every stage—particularly those navigating high-risk pregnancies, identity shifts, burnout, and the invisible weight of modern maternal life. But beyond the guidance it provides, the book is also the testament of a mother who defied medical expectations, survived a natural disaster, and experienced an extraordinary full-circle moment—giving birth in the same hospital where she lost her father.
Moore's story began in 2022, when a burst pipe destroyed the first level of her home, forcing her and her husband to relocate. She moved to Asheville, NC, in early 2023, while her husband remained in South Carolina. Then, in fall of 2024, as he prepared to join her at her childhood home, Hurricane Helene struck, blocking the interstates and separating them for days—she in North Carolina, he in South Carolina. When roads finally cleared, her husband rushed to Asheville, bringing much-needed supplies to Moore and her family.

After all this, Moore battled preeclampsia, a dangerous pregnancy complication that often leads to preterm birth, low birth weight, and serious maternal health risks. But despite the odds, in December 2024, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy at Mission Hospital—the same hospital where she had lost her father in March of 2023. This profound experience inspired Moore to share her journey with the world, not just as a memoir of survival but as a guide for mothers facing hardships of every kind.
Published by Freedom Life and Travel, 7 Real Truths About Modern Motherhood is not just a book—it's a movement. Drawing on research from Harvard Medical School, Stanford University, and leading maternal health organizations, Moore tackles seven core truths that millions of mothers are living every day but rarely speaking aloud: the complicated feelings surrounding the choice to become a mother, the neurological transformation of matrescence, the perfectionism trap, the invisible mental load, career identity, relationship strain, and reclaiming self-worth and body confidence.
