Project-Based Learning at Carbon Valley Academy
S For Story/10555200
With all the new methods of teaching, it's hard to differentiate which one's which! Project-based learning has educators raving, and maybe you want to join in on all the excitement, too, but you're not sure about what it is just yet.
FREDERICK, Colo. - s4story -- Uncover the benefits of project-based learning and why educators like those at Carbon Valley Academy have implemented it in their curriculums. Read on to discover what everyone is so thrilled about!
What Is Project-Based Learning?
Project-based learning, or PBL, is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working to investigate and respond to a question or challenge. Students use their knowledge to form unique responses to problems through a distinguished curriculum. By demonstrating what they have learned through a presentation or project, they solve real world, complex problems. It requires critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, and effective communication.

Learning Becomes Responsive and Honest
What if students could see their education making a difference in their lives? Through PBL, students feel empowered and excited about learning, discovering, and questioning topics. Providing outside concepts enables them to explore and question topics rather than makes them feel bored or overwhelmed. This leads them to uncover connections between daily problems and their solutions as they take control of their education. Through PBL, students discover positive changes and improvements in their education and find themselves eager about learning.
Strong Bonds Are Built
Collaboration is a major factor of PBL. As a result, relationships form within the classroom. Not only do students work more efficiently within groups by providing input, sharing concepts, and listening to one another, but they also build positive relationships with their teachers. This is incredibly beneficial towards creating a classroom community and gaining insight for future careers.

Individual Strengths Bloom
Another benefit of PBL is students will naturally place themselves in the roles that suit them and their strengths best. Not only does this help them grow, but they also learn in ways that best help them if they're struggling. This lets teachers observe and discover more about each student.
Allows Teachers to Assess Progress
PBL isn't just beneficial for students. Teachers now find that it is easier to pinpoint each student's strengths and areas for improvement through observation. By seeing how students work together instead of simply handing in assignments and grades, teachers receive better feedback and can adequately measure performance over time.
Traditional Education Transformed
PBL lets students learn the same important concepts but in a comprehensive way, giving way to self-discovery, collaboration, transparency, and effective problem-solving. There is less memorization and more critical thinking, and teachers facilitate information so students can discover unique ways of finding solutions. PBL sparks excitement, improves individual strengths, and builds independence to prepare students for the world's problems.
