Racers take on Purgatory's World Cup DH trail as overall Mountain States Cup champions are crowned, Aug. 30
DURANGO, Colo. - s4story -- Purgatory Resort will host the Durango Classic Aug. 27–30, marking the finale of the Mountain States Cup's first season in over a decade.
The Durango Classic is the fourth and final stop of the USA Cycling-sanctioned Mountain States Cup, which spans New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. Each Mountain States Cup event features a $15,000 prize purse, and the season culminates at Purgatory, where the overall series champions will be crowned Sunday, Aug. 30.
Purgatory has helped shape downhill mountain biking for more than three decades. The resort hosted the inaugural UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 1990, hosted a UCI Mountain Bike World Cup stop in 2001, and will welcome the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships again in 2030. This year's Mountain States Cup finale will be held on Purgatory's iconic World Cup DH trail, giving regional riders the opportunity to race the same terrain that will help crown future downhill world champions.

"Hosting the Mountain States Cup Series Finale is another important step as we prepare to welcome the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships back to Purgatory in 2030," said Josh Benson, senior director of Purgatory Resort. "Our World Cup DH trail has challenged some of the best riders in the world, and it's exciting to give the next generation of racers a chance to be part of that legacy."
"It's been incredible to watch riders, families and volunteers come together this summer," said Shawn Neer, series director at Mountain States Cup. "Ending the series at Purgatory, a place with so much history in our sport, is the perfect way to celebrate everyone who's been part of this comeback season."
Every rider's race-run will be broadcast live both on-site and online, with professional announcers, on-course cameras and large video screens showing live timing and race coverage in the base area. Spectators can also watch from the finish arena and designated viewing areas along the course, while enjoying Vendor Village exhibits, food vendors and a beer garden throughout the weekend.
