"Direct mail also helps avoid "digital fatigue". "The United States Postal Service (USPS) says the average household only receives two pieces of direct mail daily whereas an individual receives 157 emails on a day-to-day basis. Email open rates are only about 20% whereas direct mail approaches the 90% range."

There is also a matter of trust, Charlton emphasized. According to Marketing Sherpa, 76% of consumers trust direct mail over other digital channels when they need to make a purchase decision. "Even the younger generations, who tend to live a digital lifestyle, value and trust direct mail over online advertising. According to USPS, 75% of Millennials shared that receiving personalized mailers makes them feel special, and 90% believe direct mail advertising is reliable and trustworthy."

A recent report from the Direct Marketing Association also showed that direct mail is 600% more effective than all other digital marketing channels combined. "Let's face it everyone checks their mailbox. The homeowner will see each piece of mail, it cannot be deleted or sent to junk. In fact, the USPS said direct mail is kept in the homes for up to two weeks. Since there is less competition in the mailbox your mailer will always take center stage."
