His argument goes beyond who sold more, streamed more or filled the larger venue. Breaking a record is measurable. Individuality is not.

The comparison is further complicated by an industry transformed since Jackson's era. Streaming altered consumption, social platforms changed visibility, digital distribution expanded global reach and chart methodologies evolved.
