Sterling Heights to Celebrate 46th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade on May 26

~ Sterling Heights, MI- The city is gearing up for its 46th Annual Memorial Day Parade, a cherished and patriotic tradition that celebrates both remembrance and community spirit. This year's theme, "We Are One: Honoring Our Past, Uniting Our Future," highlights the importance of honoring the sacrifices of the past while coming together as a community to build a better future.

The day will begin with a solemn Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. in the courtyard between City Hall and the Police Department. The ceremony will feature inspiring remarks from this year's Grand Marshal, 104-year-old WWII veteran and Sterling Heights resident Jack Jones. Mayor Michael C. Taylor and Arts Commission Chairperson Jeanne Schabath-Lewis will also speak at the event. The Motor City Blend Chorus will provide a moving musical backdrop to honor those who have served our country.

A special highlight of this year's event includes a thrilling flyover by historic Tuskegee Airmen WWII aircraft at approximately 9:30 a.m., followed by a stirring performance by the 1st Michigan Colonial Fife & Drum Corps.

At 10 a.m., the parade will kick off from Dodge Park and continue through the roundabout before heading south along Dodge Park Road. The parade will conclude at Gene L. Klida Utica Academy for International Studies near Metro Parkway. Spectators can find parking along the route as well as in front of the Police Department and Richard J. Notte Civic Center.

More than 60 parade entries are expected to participate in this year's event, including floats, veterans, community groups, local media personalities, and high school marching bands. The Moslem Shriners will also make an appearance with their lively crew of clowns, cowboys, musicians, motorcyclists, and more.

Mayor Michael Taylor expressed his excitement for this year's Memorial Day Parade stating that it is one of the city's signature events and has earned a reputation as one of the most meaningful and well-attended in the region. He also emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifice and courage of the men and women who have served our nation, making this event not just a celebration of community, but also a powerful reminder of their bravery and legacy.
