The dirtiest word in politics, compromise
S For Story/10329834
Is our country heading towards a dictatorship? Author Lisa Orban tackles this question head-on in "If I were Dictator: a tongue-in-cheek guide to saving our democracy" diving into the heart of our democracy and what it means to be a society.
QUINCY, Ill. - May 8, 2018 - s4story -- Tired of politics as usual? Feeling pressured to take sides? Exhausted trying to figure out who you need to unfriend today? Author Lisa Orban comes to the rescue using humor, sarcasm, and a little bit of math to engage readers with a collaborative approach to solving our problems as a society united, rather than one resigned to remain in our current fractured state. Nor does the author require absolute agreement on everything presented during the course of the book, instead readers are encouraged to find the compromise in between the disagreements (or throw the book around the room if it makes you feel better).
Challenging the situation normal, all f**cked up narrative, the author encourages readers to find their common ground. "By stripping away the dividing labels we've been given," author Lisa Orban remarks, "most people can agree on most things. We all want quality education for our children, good roads to drive on, safe water and food, accessible medicine and healthcare, clean cities, upward mobility, and a secure life for ourselves and our family." If I were Dictator takes away the Us vs. Them in these agreed upon needs of our country and presents a blueprint to begin doing just that.

"Together we are strong, we are powerful, and we can make our voices heard. If we stop searching for our differences, and arguing over the fine details, we can find our common ground and become unstoppable. And that, more than anything is what those in power fear most. Not individual divided by self-interest yelling to the sky, but of people united by an ideal, working together. We the People, in order to form a more perfect union..."
