The Pet Professional Accreditation Board launches new accreditations for feline trainers and behavior consultants
S For Story/10660997
Board adds Professional Feline Trainer and Professional Feline Behavior Consultant (Accredited) qualifications to reflect the practical skills and experience of feline training professionals
THE VILLAGES, Fla. - s4story -- .
The Pet Professional Accreditation Board (PPAB) has added two new levels to its current accreditation process, designed specifically for professional feline trainers and behavior consultants. Holders of the new qualifications will earn the titles Professional Feline Trainer (Accredited) and Professional Feline Behavior Consultant (Accredited) and will be able to display the letters PFT-A and PFBC-A after their names.
These new credentials were specifically developed for professionals who are highly skilled and experienced in the practical art of feline training and behavior. The programs have a rigorous path to completion, which includes eligibility criteria and an oath of ethical conduct. The PPAB credential is the first-ever feline professional qualification to reflect this ethical stance, marking a significant step forward for consumer protection, animal welfare, and a higher level of skill proficiency among feline training and behavior professionals.
To acquire the accreditation, candidates will be assessed on their knowledge of feline communication and social behavior; recognizing the need for relaxation strategies; general training and management; emotional well-being managed through adequate mental and physical stimulation; ethics; the science of learning; and training tools and equipment.

Candidates will also be required to submit filmed evidence of them teaching selected skills to a feline, along with a video clip in which they explain what a conditioned emotional response is and how to achieve it, and demonstrate how they have changed a feline's experience of a neutral or unpleasant object or situation to invoke an alternative, positive response. Finally, candidates will need to submit a video showcasing their ability to coach clients.
Following her successful completion of the pilot examination and skills video, Michelle Martiya has been announced as the first credential holder. Said Michelle, "I've been wanting to add more feline consulting to my business, so I'm thrilled to have proof of my competency to display for potential clients."
Chair of the Pet Professional Guild's (PPG) Feline Division and member of the Credential Development Team, Laura Cassiday, said, "We're thrilled to announce the very first PPAB credentialed feline trainer. This marks an exciting milestone following a lengthy and thoughtful development process. This certification marks a significant advancement in elevating standards for feline behavior professionals."
The PPG Education Committee and feline experts have been working together on these new credentials for over a year. PPAB credentials are unique in that the Pet Professional Accreditation Board offers the only psychometrically sound examinations and accreditations that support humane and scientific practices for professionals who believe there is no place for shock, choke, prong, pain, force, or fear in pet training and behavior practices. The PPAB sets a high standard by assessing competency in the following areas:
Said founder and president of PPG, Niki Tudge, "There is, to date, no government oversight in the fields of pet training and behavior in the United States. PPAB was created to establish independently assessed, highly respected credentials that demonstrate not only the academic accomplishments and 'real-world' expertise of accredited professionals, but also their commitment to results-based, science-based, and force-free training and pet care. We look forward to adding a long list of feline training and behavior professionals to the growing number of force-free training and behavior professionals worldwide."

About the Pet Professional Accreditation Board
The Pet Professional Accreditation Board (PPAB) operates as a Doing Business As (DBA) of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG). It serves a meticulous testing program for force-free animal training and behavior professionals that is independent of any industry school, trade school, college, or credentialing body. Applicants are tested in the fields of learning theory; biology and anatomy; ethology, body language and observational skills; health, development and life stages; business and consulting skills and best practices; and finally, scientific and practical methods. Those who pass the examination and meet the practical requirements earn specific titles that may be used after their names and must earn continuing education units to maintain these titles. Accredited PPAB professionals understand and agree to a rigid set of guiding principles and ethical conduct
