Vitrification Now Preferred Method for Oocyte and Embryo Cryopreservation in UK IVF Clinics
S For Story/10688096
LONDON - s4story -- Chichester, UK - Cryolab Ltd, specialist supplier of cryogenic equipment and consumables to IVF laboratories across the UK, has published a new clinical guide comparing vitrification and slow programmable freezing for fertility preservation applications.
The guide, available at cryolab.co.uk, sets out the clinical evidence base, survival rate comparisons and equipment requirements for laboratories running cryopreservation programmes. It covers oocyte, embryo and sperm cryopreservation across both methods, with reference to ESHRE guidelines, HFEA requirements and published peer-reviewed data.
Key findings from the published evidence reviewed in the guide include oocyte survival rates of 90% or above with vitrification compared to 50 to 80% with slow freezing, and blastocyst survival of 95% or above with vitrification compared to 70 to 85% with slow freezing. The ESHRE guideline on female fertility preservation recommends vitrification as the preferred method for both oocytes and embryos.

The guide also addresses the continued role of slow programmable freezing in sperm banking, where controlled-rate freezing remains standard practice and vitrification offers no clinical advantage.
Cryolab supplies CBS HSV Vitrification Kits, CBS embryo and sperm straws, CryoNest and CryoCan liquid nitrogen storage vessels, CryoStork dry shippers and the full range of cryogenic laboratory consumables and safety equipment to fertility clinics and research laboratories throughout the UK and internationally.
