The Storyline

Shahrzad has a lovely Iranian romance that a lot of people love. Set in the backdrop of the coup d'état in 1953, the romance is intoxicating. It is based around two lovers, Farhad and Shahrzad. Despite tense political issues, they are preparing for the wedding of their dreams. They are also both working towards their dreams of becoming a doctor and a journalist. However, during a time of unrest and upheaval, Farhad is arrested with some of his other colleagues. While in prison, they are tortured and sentenced to death because they were accused of murdering a Guars of Honour.

Shahrzad is a nurse, at the time, and ends up meeting Bozorg Agha, a person who is very influential, has been finding the coup, and also the group that arrested Farhad. Naturally, Shahrzad asks him for help releasing Farhad from prison. When Bozorg agrees, it comes with a price. Shahrzad must marry his son-in-law and have children with him because his own daughter cannot have children of her own. Heartbroken, Shahrzad agrees to this arrangement, has to lie to Farhad, then marry the son-in-law.
