Young Writers From BC and Ontario Win National Creative Writing Competition
S For Story/10426514
TORONTO - s4story -- National education charity, Ripple Foundation, announces Tvisha Lakhani, Gr7, (Mount Pleasant Village Public School), and Brynne Storey, Gr4, (Brooksbank Elementary School, North Vancouver, BC) as winners of its eighth Kids Write 4 Kids (KW4K) 2019/20 creative writing challenge.
Tvisha's novel, 'Through the Mirror', journeys with protagonist Nicole Leblanc through her discovery of a magic portal to a distant kingdom, where she is charged with a crime she didn't commit, and has only a few hours to prove her innocence.
Brynne's novel, 'The Sheeps' Journey', was inspired by a photo of a rainbow sheep and imagines what life would be like for a regular sheep in a world of rainbow sheep and some of the dangers they might face.
These books will be published, and all sale proceeds donated to the author's charity of choice.
This year's judging panel consisted of three previous KW4K competition winners and nine renowned panelists, including The Globe and Mail's Book Editor, Judith Pereira, children's book columnist, Jeffrey Canton and Associate Producer at CBC Books and Canada Reads, Jane van Koeverden. Stories were rated on creativity, originality, story structure and quality.

Canton: "What I especially admired about Through the Mirror and The Sheeps' Journey was the strong voices of the young writers and how well they managed their stories - things made sense all the way through, and the writers all had control of their material - I was both engaged and interested in what they were saying and I certainly felt that they were not only well-written but truly creative."
Ivy Wong, Founder, said. "Every year we receive so many amazing, heart-warming stories from super talented youth across the country. I know it's a very tough - and long - process for the judges to come to a decision because of this. Tvisha and Brynne's stories really stood out from the crowd, and we are all excited about the next publishing stage in the process.
"We look forward to welcoming even more talented young writers to the competition opening in Fall 2020!"
