Beyond Candy and Costumes: How to Talk to Children About Halloween and Faith

Christian Author Dr. Celeste Payne Releases New Children's Book, Have No Fear, The Holy Ghost Is Here!, Offering Families a Faith-Based Approach to Halloween
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - s4story -- As families, churches, and educators prepare for Halloween, Christian author, educator, and Licensed Professional Christian Therapist Dr. Celeste Payne is introducing a timely new children's book designed to turn seasonal questions into meaningful conversations about faith, courage, and the presence of God. Aside from being a timely book, it's relevancy places an emphasis on the importance of Faith—especially during this time of the year!
Titled Have No Fear, The Holy Ghost Is Here! What Jaimie Learned About Halloween, the illustrated Christian children's book follows a young girl named Jaimie as she encounters Halloween decorations, including witches, ghosts, and jack-o'-lanterns. Feeling curious and somewhat uneasy, Jaimie turns to her Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Parker, with questions about what she sees around her.
Their conversation becomes an opportunity to explore a deeper spiritual lesson: who the Holy Spirit is and how God's Spirit helps believers navigate everyday life with courage, comfort, guidance, and peace.
Rather than focusing solely on what children should or should not participate in during Halloween, Dr. Payne's book offers a positive, Scripture-based approach to helping young readers understand their faith and the spiritual resources available to them.

"I didn't write this book simply to tell children what not to do on Halloween. I wrote it to introduce them to Someone far greater than anything they might fear—the Holy Spirit," says Dr. Payne.
An Unexpected Request Sparks a Meaningful Message
The inspiration for the book began with an unexpected request for a Halloween coloring book. Because Dr. Payne does not personally celebrate Halloween, she declined the request. However, the conversation prompted her to consider the experiences of children growing up in Christian households whose families make different choices about the holiday.
Moreover, her own experiences as a parent also helped shape the story. After initially participating in Halloween activities with her child when he was younger, her family eventually made a different decision as their understanding and convictions evolved.
As the book developed, its central message became increasingly clear: the most important lesson is not Halloween itself, but helping children understand who the Holy Spirit is and how His presence can strengthen their faith every day.
"Our children are going to encounter things in the world that raise questions. Rather than avoiding those conversations, we can use them as opportunities to teach biblical truth with love and confidence," Dr. Payne explains.
Twelve Biblical Lessons to Help Children Understand the Holy Spirit
In addition to Jaimie's story, the book features "12 Things Kids Like You Should Know About the Holy Ghost," a child-friendly introduction to the Holy Spirit's role in the lives of believers.

Through accessible storytelling, Scripture, and colorful illustrations, young readers are introduced to the Holy Spirit as their Helper, Comforter, and Guide, learning how He can help them pray, make wise decisions, find peace, face challenges, and live courageously.
The book draws inspiration from 2 Timothy 1:7, which teaches that God has not given believers a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
"My hope is that children will finish this book knowing more than why their family may or may not celebrate Halloween. I want them to know who the Holy Spirit is and how He helps them live courageously," she says.
A Timely Conversation for Families, Churches, and Educators
With Halloween approaching, Have No Fear, The Holy Ghost Is Here! offers an opportunity for Christian families to discuss faith, cultural traditions, personal convictions, and biblical teachings about fear.
"Although Halloween is the setting, the Holy Spirit is the real focus," says Dr. Payne. "I want children to understand that God's presence, peace, and power are available to them every day of the year."
Lastly, this book also encourages parents to communicate their family's biblical convictions with confidence and grace, recognizing that families may make different decisions about seasonal traditions. Click this link to order your very own copy of this book today: https://link.amazon/B09BvjcMO
