'Call Of The Wild' Beckons California Outdoor Media Pros
S For Story/10366756
DANA POINT, Calif. - Feb. 23, 2019 - s4story -- Birding, biking, hunting, hiking. If you cover the great outdoors — in the print, web, or broadcast media — the Outdoor Writers Association of California (OWAC) is looking for you.
Dub it thecall of the wild;this non-profit organization offers media professionals support, collaboration, and networking opportunities with other experienced outdoor communicators throughout California and the western region.
Currently in its 33rdyear, OWAC hosts twice-yearly conferences in regional destinations where adventure abounds. The spring OWAC Conference, slated for May 19 to 21, 2019 in Siskiyou County, will feature workshops, a trade show, guest speakers, photo contest and the annual Craft Awards presentation, which recognizes excellence in the various media platforms.
Included is a day of hosted outings, with attendees choosing from activities such as fishing, paddle-boarding, bicycling, and more. Search for Bigfoot along the Klamath River, or enjoy yoga in sacred waters. A broad span of activities helps journalists home in on subjects pertinent to their specific media outlets and needs.

"Siskiyou is a unique four-season destination that fulfills the need to connect with nature," said Niki Brown, program manager at hosting Discover Siskiyou. "We want to share who we are with the world — one of the last holdouts of true adventure."
OWAC members and their guests are invited to such gatherings each spring and fall. In addition, OWAC publishes a bi-monthly newsletter with timely information and pointers from experts in the field, sponsors a scholarship for young outdoor writers, and presents the prestigious Californian of the Year award.
Working professionals passionate about the outdoors are invited to join. Members are eligible to attend conferences, and enter OWAC's prominent Craft Awards contest. "Broad-based media recognition of Craft Awards and achievements expands beyond OWAC's reach," points out Executive Director Bob Semerau; and is a proven benefit in helping secure assignments and industry liaisons.
OWAC also offers Sponsor, Retired, Provisional and Student memberships. For more information visit www.owac.orgor contact ED Semerau at bob@semerau.net.
