Currently, an unprecedented 23%, have died-off in the world's largest reef, the Great Barrier Reef. World-wide, the percentage is mounting and has been destroyed by climate change. The Ocean Agency aims to be different. Ehlers is a published artist whose artworks are bold, colorful, and expressionist, filled with emotion and movement. Motivated by watching the video, Chasing Coral, she began a one and half year journey of painting in support of the crisis. "At first, I was merely fascinated by the rainbow colors of coral reefs, and how they re-develop. It took my breath away, and then the reality sunk in, and was taken over by sadness as I watched coral dying. With these thoughts in my mind, the paintings took on a life of their own, and are filled with animals, creatures, and colors of coral and sea. You need to look deep inside the art to seek what is not seen at first glance, much like reef life. I found hope for the future of coral". Presently, Ehlers is the Art Program Assistant for the City of Encinitas, and curates three galleries, in addition to curating for Jazzercise, Inc., Carlsbad. She has painted for the United Nations, Paris, FR.; Gator on the Bay, LA.; TICA, internationally; Cure for Cancer, HI; and the Rock n' Roll Marathon, TX.
