Dallas Chamber Symphony's "The Wind" Silent Film and Concert
S For Story/10397771
DALLAS - s4story -- Led by Artistic Director and Conductor Richard McKay, the Dallas Chamber Symphony continues its award-winning UnSilent Film Series with a premiere of a score by Canadian composer Alain Mayrand to concert screening of Victor Sjöström's The Wind, a 1928 silent romantic drama starring Lillian Gish. "The Wind" movie and concert will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 8:00 p.m. at Moody Performance Hall.
The Wind was the last silent film to be released by the studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The story, set primarily in Sweetwater, Texas during the dust bowl, is a dark tale of perseverance through the harsh realities of frontier life. The film stars Lillian Gish, who unlike many actors, successfully transitioned to "talkies," establishing a career (1912-1987) that would span over 75 years, and earn her the title "First Lady of the American Cinema."
Composer Alain Mayrand is a multi-instrumentalist, playing the piano, cello, flute, classical and electric guitar, as well as a highly trained composer with a level of skill and broad musical experience that gives him a versatile musical voice perfectly at home in the world of films. He has tackled successfully numerous genres including animation and fantasy (The Legend of Silk Boy), drama (No Letting Go, Primary), coming-of-age (Frog) action (Numb, Evil Feed) and horror (Comforting Skin).
