Dani's Inferno Re-Imagines the Prodigal Son and Proves There Are No Limits to a Father's Love
S For Story/10437716
"Dani's Inferno," Scott M. Rutherford's debut novel slated for a September 25 release, is a fresh take on the Parable of the Prodigal Son set against the excess of the Sunset Strip scene of the early '90s.
s4story -- "Dani's Inferno" is an excellent account of how the excess of the early '90s affects a 'good girl' who grew up in a Christian home, but finds herself falling further than she'd have thought possible. Ashley Carlson, the Deputy Publisher at TouchPoint Press, stated, "the characters in Scott's book struggle with the choice between their faith and the temptations of the world. The culmination is an inspiring and uplifting message that will always stay with me."
This re-imagined parable will greatly appeal to young adult readers, adults who came of age in the '80s and early '90s, readers of inspirational fiction, as well as music fans and classic car enthusiasts. As Rutherford explains, "this story, which originated from stories I told to teenagers at a juvenile home where I worked, draws on lots of my favorite things—classic muscle cars, the music of the late '80s and early '90s, and my favorite passage of Scripture—the Parable of the Prodigal Son."

"Dani's Inferno" follows Dani Grassigli, who is left in the care of her older brother Vic when their father's Marine Corps Reserve unit is called to active duty in the runup to Operation Desert Storm. When her father returns from the war crippled, he gives Dani and Vic the family business for their birthdays. Neither Vic, who wants to be a missionary, nor Dani, who is pursuing music are thrilled. While Vic remains dutiful to his father, Dani insists on getting her half in cash so she can buy equipment for her new band. Dani's band, Inferno, soon takes off like a rocket, but when the winds of pop culture shift, Dani is left abandoned in the dying Sunset Strip scene, wondering if she can ever return home. Fortunately, she discovers there are no limits to a father's love, or to the sacrifices a father will make for his little girl.
