Eco-Products and DNO Produce Help Bring Environmental Sustainability to K-12 School Cafeterias
S For Story/10656390
BOULDER, Colo., April 15, 2025 ~ Eco-Products® and DNO Produce® have joined forces to introduce a new compostable cup and lid offering specifically designed for K-12 school nutrition programs. This innovative product combination features a 4-ounce molded fiber cup made from renewable resources, sealed with plant-based lidding film once food has been placed inside.
The need for individually packaged, pre-portioned food has been on the rise in schools due to staffing challenges faced by many school districts. DNO's prepared produce eliminates the need for schools to sort, wash, pre-cut, and portion their offerings.
Eco-Products, a Novolex brand and certified B Corp, is a leading provider of foodservice packaging made from renewable and recycled resources. The company is dedicated to offering packaging with real environmental benefits and works closely with customers to improve composting and recycling efforts. They also collaborate with the broader industry to shift how businesses and consumers think about waste management.
DNO Produce, based in Columbus, Ohio, is a distributor of fresh-cut and bulk produce that services school nutrition programs in 17 states. The company provides thousands of K-12 students with fresh fruits and vegetables daily and has partnered with Eco-Products to increase their use of sustainable packaging.

According to Alex DiNovo, President of DNO Produce, "Our transition to more sustainable packaging is the culmination of a multi-year effort to align our operations with our sustainability goals." He also noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a surge in demand for individually packaged produce which presented an opportunity for change. DiNovo expressed pride in being part of this revolutionary product alongside Eco-Products as their partner.
Wendell Simonson, Director of Marketing at Eco-Products, shared his excitement about seeing this new cup and lid solution being implemented in schools across DNO's footprint. He emphasized that projects like this are only possible when both parties are fully committed to a new way of doing things, which is evident in this collaboration.
The molded fiber cup used in this product is BPI-Certified compostable, and the plant-based lidding film meets ASTM Standards for compostability. For more information about lidding film options from Eco-Products, visit their website at www.ecoproducts.com/compostable-lidding-film. This partnership between Eco-Products and DNO Produce is a step towards a more sustainable future for school nutrition programs and the environment.
