Engaging New Book Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Providence's Legendary Biltmore Hotel
S For Story/10565039
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - s4story -- Providence, RI -- It may not be possible to separate the history of Providence, Rhode Island's Biltmore Hotel from the city itself. Opened in grand style in 1922, the hotel has welcomed presidents, Hollywood celebrities, legendary sports personalities, bootleggers, mobsters, and thousands of local visitors for weddings, parties, and all manner of celebration. As the city grew, thrived, and occasionally struggled, so did the hotel.
In her new book, Meet Me at The Biltmore, author and historian Amanda Quay Blount chronicles the last 100 years in the life of this celebrated hotel. And in it, the hotel comes to life through her meticulous research, rarely seen photographs, insightful interviews, and engaging one-of-a-kind anecdotes. In short, the book tells of the dramatic rise, fall, and renaissance of the state's majestic capital city, as seen through the eyes of one of its most iconic landmarks.
More on S For Story
Today, the hotel has been renamed The Graduate Providence by its new ownership, but it will live on for generations as simply "The Biltmore" in the hearts and minds of everyone who slept, visited, dined, or celebrated within its storied walls across ten unforgettable and turbulent decades.
Amanda Quay Blount is a New Jersey native but lives in Providence, Rhode Island with her husband, daughter, their pet rabbit, Arthur, and the family dog, Rye. When she isn't researching and writing historical fiction and nonfiction, Amanda runs a nonprofit organization and is a strategic planning consultant. She has traveled extensively around the world, collecting stories along the way. Amanda believes that it is a profound privilege to be able to tell other people's stories through her writing and is grateful for the opportunity to share some of these with the world. Meet Me at The Biltmore is her first book.
