Evidence Based Emotional Freedom Techniques Support Cancer Related Experiences
S For Story/10513781
Research has shown that EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is an effective method for alleviating emotional and psychological upsets as well as physical pain for cancer patients, their family, and caregivers.
PETALUMA, Calif. - s4story -- In the United States in 2019, cancer was the second leading cause of death, after heart disease, with 599,601 cancer deaths, according to the CDC. In addition to the tragedy of loss of life, cancer has an obviously immense impact on those who survive cancer and all the people in the lives of cancer survivors and casualties: friends, family, caretakers, medical professionals, hospital staff, acquaintances, and everyone involved.
In their book EFT For Cancer (December 2021, Energy Psychology Press), authors Deborah D. Miller, PhD, and Stephanie Marohn detail the practical application of Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as "EFT" or "tapping," to every aspect of dealing with cancer, from fear of the dreaded "C" word through diagnosis, treatment, and the myriad emotional and physical aspects of the disease.

According to Marohn, research has shown that EFT is an effective method for alleviating emotional and psychological upsets as well as physical pain. She says, "With all of these factoring into the cancer experience, adding EFT to a healing program is a form of self-care people can implement today. EFT provides support every step of the cancer journey."
An evidence-based practice, EFT combines acupressure (tapping on acupuncture points) with psychology's exposure therapy and cognitive behavior therapy (focusing on whatever is distressing you) to halt the stress response and clear pain and upset. The authors provide the scientific research that earned EFT the "evidence-based" designation. Case studies throughout the book illustrate the use of EFT for cancer. There are also dozens of detailed tapping scripts designed for specific issues related to cancer that enable readers to start tapping immediately.
Marohn said she and researcher Dawson Church, PhD (founder of Energy Psychology Press) envisioned a book that filled a large missing piece in the EFT literature: a comprehensive book on cancer. "We wanted a book for all ages, encompassing all kinds of cancer and all those impacted by it," she says.
