FGCU donation fuels Child Care of Southwest Florida's 'Focus on Four' program

S For Story/10671440
FORT MYERS, Fla. - s4story -- Child Care of Southwest Florida received a $40,900 financial contribution from Florida Gulf Coast University to enhance the child care provider's Focus on Four program, which helps prepare 4-year-olds for kindergarten.

The donation helped provide $450 monthly scholarships for 31 children, as well as $500 stipends for six teachers and program supplies. The gift also allowed Child Care of Southwest Florida to host a Family Fun Day in July.

"We are so thankful for FGCU's contribution to this program and the university's ongoing support for our Focus on Four program, which ties directly to our mission of strengthening and enhancing the lives of the children and families we serve," said Chris Hansen, CEO of Child Care of Southwest Florida. "Donations like these help us reach more children and families who need access to early childhood education."

The Focus on Four program helps prepare 4-year-olds for kindergarten by offering free high-quality education during the summer before they enter school. Child Care of Southwest Florida launched Focus on Four in 2017 and concentrates on four pillars of learning: social-emotional skills, literacy and language development, STEM activities and hands-on learning opportunities. The program also offers professional development activities for early childhood education instructors.
