Florida Man is Coming to Comic Shops This Summer
S For Story/10538008
MIAMI - s4story -- Summertime just got a whole lot hotter! This July, Eisner winner Mike Baron is bringing his own brand of funny books to American Mythology Comics with Florida Man #1, telling the misadventures of Gary Duba, the redneck with a heart of gold and his troublesome girlfriend Krystal who live in a trailer by the swamp, trying one get-rich-quick scheme after another and creating problems wherever they go.
Baron is a living legend in the world comic books, first becoming a household name by co-creating Nexus with Steve Rude. He then went on to write characters like The Flash for DC Comics and Marvel's The Punisher for several years before becoming a full time novelist. After uproarious response to the first Florida Man novel, Baron decided to try to release a graphic novel based on his books, which he successfully crowdfunded last year. Now he's publishing the adventures in a series of single comicbook issues with new content for American Mythology to be distributed to comic shops around the world this July.

Internet searches for "Florida Man" began going viral in 2013, (and were re-popularized in 2020), resulting in various news articles concerning Florida natives that got involved in unusual or strange crimes or events occurring in the Sunshine State, particularly where "Florida Man" is mentioned in a news headline. Those stories were what inspired Baron to create the character of "Gary Duba," a good natured petty criminal with a habit for getting into strange and unusual situations of his own making.
"Comic book readers are hungry for more than just superheroes these days," Baron says. "They want drama, mystery, horror, and yes, comedy, especially in these trying times. It's healthy and fun to make people laugh and that's exactly what this book is all about!"
American Mythology Productions is a publishing house dedicated to creating the best new comics for all audiences and Florida Man will be a perfect addition to their eclectic mix of new and classic humor comics such as Pink Panther, The Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, and Willy's Wonderland.
