ASHEVILLE, N.C. - s4story -- One of the biggest visual moments over Asheville tonight will not be on a stage.

It will be in the sky.

The 2026 Harvest Moon reaches full illumination at 12:49 p.m. Eastern, then rises over Asheville shortly after sunset. This year, Saturn will appear nearby, creating a striking pairing over the Blue Ridge.

KayeDinero plans to point her camera upward.

Hours after releasing "Detroit WestSide," the Detroit-raised, Asheville-based producer plans to continue her growing visual series by capturing the Harvest Moon from the mountains, weather permitting.

"I've filmed the river. I've filmed Asheville after dark. Now the sky is giving me something," KayeDinero said. "If it's happening over these mountains and I can capture it beautifully, I'm going."

FROM DETROIT WESTSIDE TO THE BLUE RIDGE SKY

"Detroit WestSide" looks backward toward KayeDinero's childhood in Detroit.

Tonight's planned shoot looks directly at where she is now.

That contrast increasingly defines her work: Detroit roots paired with an Asheville visual language built around mountains, rivers, streets and changing seasons.

Her recent videos include "Appalachia," filmed against the Blue Ridge Mountains; "French Broad," built around aerial river imagery; and "Banks," a nighttime look at Asheville's South Slope.

"The songs don't have to stay inside a studio," she said. "I can let the world around me become part of the record."

WHY THIS MOON IS DIFFERENT

The Harvest Moon is the full moon nearest the autumn equinox. Because of the moon's path at this time of year, it rises close to sunset for several evenings — the reason the event historically provided additional evening light during harvest season.

For Asheville, moonrise is expected around 7:12 p.m., with the nearly fully illuminated moon climbing into the eastern sky and Saturn nearby.

The visual could also mark the beginning of KayeDinero's fall mountain series.

Fall color is already beginning at Asheville's highest elevations. Explore Asheville reports the first golds and oranges appearing in the high country while the city and most lower elevations remain predominantly green.

"The mountains are changing now," KayeDinero said. "I want to document the transition, not just the peak."
