Bringing the Joy of a Melanated Santa to Black and Brown Families This Holiday Season and Beyond
CONCORD, Calif. - s4story -- As Hey Carter! Books continues to spread diversity and representation with their best-selling children's book series, taking the time to sprinkle in some holiday cheer this season was essential. Hey Carter! Books was built on the foundation of Black and brown children having the opportunity to connect with literature that is a representation of themselves. This holiday season, children of all ages and cultural backgrounds have the joy of incorporating a Santa that looks like them, now and for many more decades to come.
Santa Claus is Coming to The Town is a rhyming, whimsical story that makes you feel immensely nostalgic. The story takes place in Oakland, California and includes some of the author's favorite locations. This lyrical and rythmactic story features a melanated Santa, celebrates the magic of Christmas, and will have you singing along while you and your family read.

"Growing up, I only saw a white Santa. The jolly old man who brought all of the gifts and the magic of Christmas was always white. We never had a chimney for him to come down but he always made it to our house. This narrative didn't become problematic for me until I became a parent. As a parent, I always try to be cognizant of the messaging I surround my children with," says Thomishia Booker, Author of Hey Carter! Books. "Santa Claus is a mythical character and should be presented in a variety of skin tones. I wanted my children to experience the magic of Christmas from a familiar and comforting point of view."
Book pre-sales began on Saturday, October 30, and will go through Friday, November 26, 2021. For more information about Hey Carter! Books and to purchase Santa Claus is Coming to The Town, visit www.heycarterbooks.com. Media inquiries, please email Aryel Nicole at aryel@candicenicolepr.com.
