We never had a chimney for him to come down but he always made it to our house. This narrative didn't become problematic for me until I became a parent. As a parent, I always try to be cognizant of the messaging I surround my children with," says Thomishia Booker, Author of Hey Carter! Books. "Santa Claus is a mythical character and should be presented in a variety of skin tones. I wanted my children to experience the magic of Christmas from a familiar and comforting point of view."

About Hey Carter! Books

Hey Carter! Books (HCB) was founded in 2016 and is a Black-owned publishing company by Dr. Thomishia Booker. Thomishia is a wife, mother, and licensed therapist. Earning a Masters in Social Work and Doctorate in Education Counseling Psychology, she spent the early part of her career working in Early Childhood Mental Health. Her background serves as a foundation for writing books focused on building self-confidence and pride amongst children of color. HCB curates books, products, and experiences that ensure Black children, specifically boys are reflected positively. The company increases representation for Black boys and focuses on building children's self confidence and pride. The Hey Carter! Children's Book Series is filled with affirmations to support parents and guardians in speaking life into your child as you read to them.
