When Louie's sleuthing partner Mrs. Duchesney discovers that her cousin Rudy, also, has disappeared, she must choose which fading path to follow. Assistance arrives in the person of an inexperienced apprentice named Simon Pennington; an old friend, Chief Homicide Detective Monsieur Bruno Lacosta; and another, whom Mrs. Duchesney has never trusted, the notoriously dangerous Yvonne, owner of Caveau des Trésors.
