Relationships Built Before Disaster Make a Difference
For Terry Merrick, Founder and Director of Pensacola Dream Center, the importance of trusted relationships became personal when a tree crashed through her home's roof during Hurricane Isaias, forcing her family to relocate.
Despite her circumstances, Merrick continued connecting vulnerable residents with food, water, supplies, and assistance through relationships established before the storm.
"The relationships that are built … I know that I could call any of them. Because I've met them. I've talked to them. I could call anybody on that list and they would answer my call," Merrick said.
Those relationships are enabling practical cooperation, including Pensacola Dream Center offering facilities to Hope Force International to support responding personnel.
Connecting Churches and Disaster Response Organizations
Serve Source is a nonprofit coordination platform helping churches, faith-based organizations, and disaster relief partners share response locations, available services, resources, and emerging needs.
Its shared disaster response map helps organizations identify nearby partners, coordinate activities, reduce duplication, and connect affected communities with assistance. By establishing relationships, communicating available resources, and supporting experienced responders, local organizations can strengthen community recovery.
