Celebrating Black Books Matter Day and James Baldwin's 100th Birthday
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. - s4story -- MahoganyBooks will celebrate the first-ever Black Books Matter Fest: IndiePenned Edition in honor of its annual Black Books Matter Day and James Baldwin's 100th Birthday. The festival will also celebrate local authors in the DMV community and host a Black Books Matter Book Swap co-hosted by Morgan Menzies of @prettylittlebookshelf. Attendees can bring a book by a Black author and exchange it for a new read. The event occurs on August 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at MahoganyBooks, National Harbor store.
"This is a special moment to celebrate Black Books Matter Day and commemorate James Baldwin turning 100 years old on August 2nd," said Ramunda Young, co-owner and co-founder of MahoganyBooks. "James Baldwin's literary contributions were pivotal in advancing artistic and intellectual change in America. He is one of the many authors who inspired the mission of MahoganyBooks, which is to promote reading, writing, and cultural awareness as tools to improve self-esteem, self-love, and, ultimately, our communities. So it is only fitting for us to honor James Baldwin at our first Black Books Matter Fest."
