ALLENTOWN, Pa. - s4story -- Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley (MOWGLV) has received $50,000 from the Harry C. Trexler Trust to support the nonprofit's Meal Subsidy Program. The Meal Subsidy Program currently serves approximately 500 Lehigh County residents each day, ensuring homebound seniors and adults with disabilities receive nutritious meals.

"Access to nutritious food is essential to maintaining health, independence and quality of life," said Melanie Kohler, chief executive officer of MOWGLV. "The Meal Subsidy Program ensures that financial circumstances do not prevent our neighbors from receiving the meals and support they need to remain healthy, safe and independent at home. We are grateful to the Harry C. Trexler Trust for recognizing the importance of this work and investing in the continued well-being of our community."

MOWGLV began the Meal Subsidy Program after recognizing a community need to provide meals to homebound adults and seniors who are unable to pay the full cost of a meal. Clients enrolled in the program receive a hot, nutritious meal tailored to their medical and nutritional needs. Through the program, case managers evaluate each client's medical history, social supports and financial circumstances.

Beyond providing nutritious meals, MOWGLV provides clients with additional support, including wellness checks, case management, grocery assistance and other supportive services designed to help individuals remain safe and independent at home.

During fiscal year 2024-25, MOWGLV produced and delivered more than 330,000 meals to nearly 2,000 older adults and adults with disabilities throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley. The Meal Subsidy Program plays a critical role in MOWGLV's mission, helping ensure homebound seniors and adults with disabilities receive consistent access to nutritious meals and the support they need to remain independent. MOWGLV offers several menu options to accommodate a variety of dietary needs and nutritional goals, ensuring clients receive meals designed to support their overall health and well-being.
