Michelle Thorne Brings Light into the Bleakness of Trauma in Both Darkness and Light
S For Story/10430685
The first installment in Michelle Thorne's Both/And Series, Both Darkness and Light, will be released July 24.
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - s4story -- Pitched as a "feel-good romance about two characters who experience gritty issues in life", the characters in this story will grab readers as they learn to embrace the darkness inside them as part of the light.
Set in a small town in Oklahoma, Both Darkness and Light features Emlyn Albright, a girl who feels safe in dark spaces after surviving a traumatic childhood; and Kyle Carter, a blind boy who longs for the light. Struggling to stay sober, Emlyn wants nothing more than a solitary life, where she can hide her secrets in her heart but Kyle, who believes in love and laughter, begins to pursue her. Despite her refusal of him, Kyle Carter longs to do everything he can to give her back the childhood she lost. The problem is, Emlyn doesn't like to be touched, and Kyle uses his hands to see.
Michelle Thorne weaves a story with well-developed, relatable characters who struggle with their flaws and depend on each other to bring light to their dark worlds. Both Darkness and Light is perfect for readers who love a sweet contemporary romance and want to be invested in the redeemability of the characters. Thorne's incorporation of real-life trauma and struggles - through Emlyn's addiction and past, and Kyle's insecurities and frustrations at being blind - makes these characters ones that readers will be rooting for through the last page.
