S For Story/10696659
Maison Law analysis ranks 373 California cities based on holiday crash risk, injury deaths, fire incidents, and fireworks access
FRESNO, Calif. - s4story -- With Fourth of July approaching, Maison Law has released a new statewide safety report ranking the most dangerous and safest California cities for the holiday.
The report, "The Most Dangerous (and Safest) California Cities for the Fourth of July," analyzed 373 California cities with populations of 10,000 or more. Cities were ranked using five safety factors tied to holiday injury risk: Fourth of July crash rates from 2023–2025, county injury death rates, five-year crash fatality and injury averages, county fire incident rates, and fireworks retail access.
Clearlake ranked as the most dangerous California city for Fourth of July, followed by Susanville, Red Bluff, Malibu, and Signal Hill. The report found that several cities at the top of the list face overlapping risks, including elevated crash rates, high county injury death rates, wildfire exposure, and/or access to consumer fireworks.

The report also found that several major Central Valley cities ranked among the 25 most dangerous, including Modesto, Sacramento, Bakersfield, Stockton, and San Bernardino. Maison Law notes that these findings are consistent with broader traffic safety concerns across inland California, where holiday travel, impaired driving, and fireworks-related risk can compound existing crash trends.
On the safer end of the rankings, Hillsborough ranked as the safest California city for Fourth of July, followed by Rancho Palos Verdes, Lomita, Moraga, and Clayton.
The top 10 safest California cities for Fourth of July are:
"Fourth of July is one of those holidays where several injury risks collide at once — drinking and driving, late-night travel, fireworks, pedestrians, and fire danger," said Martin Gasparian, founding attorney of Maison Law. "The goal of this report is not to scare people away from celebrating, but to help Californians understand where risks are highest and make safer decisions before the holiday weekend."

Maison Law's report also highlights key safety reminders for Californians ahead of July 4, including planning a sober ride before drinking, checking local fireworks laws before purchasing or using fireworks, watching for pedestrians and children in residential areas, and taking extra caution when leaving major fireworks events or holiday gatherings.
