Okaloosa Recovery Centers Combine Oct. 26: What Niceville, Shalimar and FWB Homeowners Should Know
S For Story/10706209
Both current sites close this week. Where to go starting Monday, what to bring, and how debris pickup works now.
NICEVILLE, Fla. - s4story -- If a home in Okaloosa County still needs help after Hurricane Isaias, the places to get it are moving this week. The county's Multi-Agency Resource Centers are combining into one site, and the debris pickup timeline now depends on where you live.
What changes. The Crestview Community Center closes at the end of the day Thursday, Oct. 22, and the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center closes at the end of the day Saturday, Oct. 24. Beginning Monday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., help moves to the Destin-Fort Walton Rigdon Center, 1319 Lewis Turner Blvd., Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa County announced on its emergency operations page.
What to bring. A government-issued ID, proof of residence, insurance policy details, and records of the damage.
The debris timeline. Okaloosa County expects its first pass in unincorporated areas to take about a week, then time for residents to put out more debris before a second pass. The City of Fort Walton Beach estimates about a month for its first pass citywide, and the city says that is an estimate; it cannot say when crews will reach a given street. Piles should be cut to 8 feet or less, unbagged, at the curb line, and clear of hydrants and mailboxes. Fort Walton Beach asks residents to keep vegetative and construction debris in separate piles. The county's debris call center is 1-833-495-3664.

Before you clean up. Take photos of the damage and keep receipts. Insurers and assistance programs typically ask for them.
"Neighbors are asking where to go and when the truck is coming. The answer is different by address, so check with your city or the county first," said Jim Whatley, broker/owner of Uber Realty LLC.
