The Catholic science fiction novel from Matthew Kelly's Logos Rising Press reaches listeners in a new format as AI, faith, and the soul drive timely debate.

ST. LOUIS - s4story -- The audiobook edition of Andrew Gillsmith's Our Lady of the Artilects was released this week, bringing the Catholic science fiction novel to listeners with narration by acclaimed actor and audiobook performer Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

The release marks a new milestone for Our Lady of the Artilects, the debut title from Logos Rising Press. Originally released independently, the novel sold nearly 20,000 copies before its new Logos Rising Press edition introduced the book to a wider Catholic and science fiction readership.

Holdbrook-Smith is especially well known to audiobook listeners for his narration of Ben Aaronovitch's bestselling Rivers of London series.

"Our Lady of the Artilects is freshly and richly imagined, skilfully blending science fiction, mystery, and even faith. It questions consciousness and humanity. It was a joy to voice it and bring Andrew Gillsmith's expertly built world and characters to life," said Holdbrook-Smith.

Our Lady of the Artilects follows Fr. Gabriel Serafian, a Vatican exorcist and former neuroscientist, as he investigates advanced androids reporting the same apocalyptic vision. What begins as a possible technological malfunction becomes a deeper mystery involving consciousness, faith, the supernatural, and the possibility of a machine possessing something like a soul.

The audiobook arrives as artificial intelligence continues to move from a technical issue into a cultural, moral, and spiritual conversation. As AI becomes more present in daily life, the novel asks timely questions about intelligence, personhood, human dignity, and whether technology can imitate the soul or only the outward signs of human life.

"Science fiction gives us room to ask questions that are difficult to approach directly," said Gillsmith. "With Our Lady of the Artilects, I wanted to tell a compelling story while also exploring the spiritual questions that emerge when artificial intelligence begins to imitate more and more of what we associate with being human."
