Pinellas parents, teachers, principals and students inspired by Pinellas County Council PTA event Keynote Speaker
S For Story/10390817
On September 7, 2019, noted author Roslyn Franken delivered her Keynote presentation at the Pinellas County Council PTA/PTSA Fall Workshop that took place at Pinellas Park High School in Largo, Florida. Roslyn recounted the remarkable story of how her mother survived the concentration camps in Nazi Europe while her father survived the Nagasaki atomic bomb as a Prisoner of War in Japan.
LARGO, Fla. - s4story -- Roslyn Franken shared how continents apart, her parents experienced and witnessed the worst of humanity first-hand and met in the most extraordinary of circumstances to find everlasting love and live their life to the fullest. She tells their remarkable life story in a book she wrote entitled, Meant to Be: A True Story of Might, Miracles and Triumph of the Human Spirit.
With rising hate crimes and school shootings in America, her inspirational message of hope and harmony over hate and triumph over tragedy needs to be heard by young people, now more than ever. Roslyn's 2018 presentation in Parkland, Florida for the class that was shot into by the gunman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School launched her School Speaking tour in the state of Florida.

Roslyn said in her presentation, "The story I share about my parents is all about survival. And for many students today, just getting through a typical school day is a matter of survival. Faced with bullying, prejudice and discrimination for any multitude of reasons such as one's appearance, ethnic group, race, religion, economic status or anything else that differentiates one student from the others, many students live with fear and alienation on a daily basis. My parents' story of what happened to people like them in the past reminds us all of the dangers of today's prejudice and discrimination and what this kind of hate and evil can lead to if we don't stop it. It's time to stop the hate."
Her presentation was very well received by attendees. "It was the best keynote that we have had in years. What Roslyn taught us was that childhood/adult trauma and suffering does not provide us with an excuse for our problems. We must use the insights and lessons learned to refocus on the good so that we free ourselves from the harm. What a wonderful message, spoken by such a unique, and humble person as Roslyn Franken. I thank Roslyn for sharing her inspirational story and reminding us of why we advocate and volunteer for the children." Lawrence Clermont, President, Pinellas County Council PTA.
