Project: Love God Tells the Jersey Devil Story from the Creature's Perspective in "13th Son"
S For Story/10706742
Project: Love God retells the Jersey Devil legend from the condemned thirteenth child's viewpoint in the rock song "13th Son."
PINE BROOK, N.J. - s4story -- Project: Love God's "13th Son" approaches the Jersey Devil legend from inside the story, giving a voice to the child who enters the world already condemned.
Inspired by the folklore surrounding Mother Leeds and the birth of her thirteenth child, the song shifts attention away from the people who claimed to see, fear or hunt the creature. Its narrator is the child himself, forced to carry a monstrous identity before having the opportunity to define who he is.
That change in perspective turns the familiar creature legend into a story about rejection, inherited judgment and the difference between being born a monster and being declared one. The character is shaped not only by what he may be, but by the fear and reputation imposed upon him.
"The Jersey Devil is usually described as something people saw, feared or hunted," says Ted G. Love God. "I wanted to tell the story from the other side—from the perspective of the thirteenth son who was treated as a monster from the moment he entered the world."

Musically, "13th Son" uses a straightforward rock arrangement with subtle Americana and country undertones. Those restrained roots influences support the narrative without treating the folklore as novelty or camp.
The song is currently available as a digital single and will also appear on Project: Love God's four-song The Thirteenth Son project, with vinyl and CD editions planned.
Project: Love God is the independent music project of Ted G. Love God, built around dark narratives, rock arrangements and recurring folklore and symbolic imagery.
