SA Prep to Host Inaugural Tunette Powell Writing Award for Transformation
S For Story/10428805
SAN ANTONIO - s4story -- San Antonio Preparatory Community School (SA Prep) is proud to announce that we are the host school for the newly established Tunette Powell Writing Award for Transformation, a writing scholarship open to middle school students throughout the city of San Antonio and surrounding areas. This is an annual award with a cash prize of $500 given directly to the award recipient in addition to $500 that will be donated to further the cause or serve as seed money to support the student's vision of transformation.
"At SA Prep we believe our Champions should strive to be their best and be celebrated for their achievements", says SA Prep Superintendent and CEO, Stephanie Hall-Powell, "We are proud to partner with the Tunette Powell Writing Award to celebrate young writers of color".
In July, middle schools will be given the opportunity to submit a creative writing piece, such as poetry, music or an essay, that describes the power of transformation in themselves, in others or in their community. This can be a transformation that has been realized or a vision of transformation a student would like to see come to fruition. In August, SA Prep will host the inaugural finals competition and ceremony to celebrate the award recipient as well as to commemorate the award and its power and potential to build community. Even though the award is hosted at SA Prep, the competition is open to any middle school student in the San Antonio area.
