The company coined the term after discovering that people who were engaging in numerous unsustainable self-care strategies experienced symptoms of burnout which adversely affected their health and caused them to quit self-care altogether. Stress experienced among Americans:

Studies showing the experience of burnout among Americans have been increasing significantly over the last decade. The American Psychological Association (2017) released findings that 3 out of 4 Americans had experienced at least one (1) stress symptom last month. Self-Care is usually the suggested remedy for tackling stress and burnout symptoms. As the popularity of self-care rises so does the number of products and services to supply this new demand.
