What if the humble sink could help save the ocean?
That's the idea behind the Green Sink Initiative, unveiled at Climate Week NYC by cleantech company Washbox with bold commitments to the Clinton Foundation, and launched today with an exclusive CIOB CPD. The campaign exposes a massive but unseen issue — millions of litres of polluted construction washwater carrying PFAS "forever chemicals," plastics, and fine solids into our rivers and oceans every
It's not a headline-grabbing issue. Yet it's everywhere. And until now, it's gone unchecked.
Four Pillars of Action
The Green Sink Initiative tackles this hidden problem through four key pillars:
Awareness — linking sinks, drains, and ocean pollution.
More on S For Story
Education — training 60,000 professionals worldwide through the CIOB.
Solutions — award-winning closed-loop "Green Sink" wash stations and new products for DIY users.
Compliance — partnering with universities and policymakers to end liquid waste mismanagement.
"Pollution from construction washwater doesn't just vanish down the drain, it flows to the ocean," said Andrew Crimston, Founder of Washbox. "We're making it easy for everyone to do the right thing. Because when a better way exists, people change."
At Climate Week, Washbox also announced its Clinton Global Initiative Commitment:
The Initiative is recognised as part of the United Nations Ocean Decade, supported by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and backed by research partnerships with Western Sydney and Deakin Universities.

Why a Sink?
Because wastewater treatment plants don't stop this type of pollution. What goes down the drain almost always makes its way to the ocean. By rethinking something as small as a sink, Washbox is helping protect something as vast as the sea.
About Washbox
Founded in 2006, Washbox is the world's first closed-loop wash station for construction, recycling water and preventing toxic discharge. Operating in Australia, New Zealand, the US, and the UK, it's a UN Ocean Decade project and multi-award winner recognised by the World Economic Forum and UK Innovation Awards.
About the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI)
Founded by President Bill Clinton in 2005, the Clinton Global Initiative brings together leaders and organizations dedicated to collaborative action. Through its unique model, over 10,000 members have launched 4,000+ Commitments to Action, improving the lives of more than 500 million people in 180 countries.
