S For Story/10661039
~ Spokane City Council is gearing up for the November 2025 general election with plans to propose an increase in the regular property tax levy for Citywide Park Improvement and Safety. The council will appoint members of the community to pro and con committees, as required by state law, to prepare arguments in favor of and against the ballot measure. These committees will also be responsible for drafting rebuttal statements, following SMC 01.07.010 and Spokane County's Administrative Rules.

According to Council Office Director Giacobbe Byrd, interested community members can apply to serve on either committee by contacting him at gbyrd@spokanecity.org before 5:00 p.m. on June 13, 2025. The proposed tax levy would be in effect for a period of twenty years starting in 2026.

This move by the Spokane City Council aims to improve citywide parks and enhance safety measures for its residents. The decision will ultimately be left in the hands of voters come November 2025.
