ATLANTA - s4story -- Dear Black Woman Media proudly announces that celebrated singer, songwriter, and author Sunja Danette has joined the family with the debut of her one-woman stage play, OVERCOMER: The Sunja Danette Story. Produced by Redd Ladys Publishing & Productions, the play is adapted from her acclaimed book Overcoming the Odds: A Story of Tragedy, Trauma, and Triumph and will tour beginning Spring 2026.
Born in Albany, Georgia, Sunja Danette McKenzie—known professionally as Sunja Danette—has lived a life shaped by music and perseverance. From singing in church at five to writing songs by ten, her artistry blossomed into a career blending inspiration, R&B, neo soul, and jazz. After relocating to Atlanta in 2016, she released singles such as "Overcomer" and "Love is the Choice."
Her live performances include appearances at Atlanta's Apache Café, the Arts in the Heart Festival in Augusta, and the African American Mayors Association Banquet. In 2020, she joined the award-winning Gud Vybez Band, which earned the Black Love Poetry Award for Best Performance. She has also collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Frank Hatchett and recently became the first signed artist under Oscilloscope Records, releasing "Let's Make Music" and its Spanish version "Creamos Música."

Beyond music, Sunja Danette is the author of Better Than a Lullaby: Children's Affirmations Book and Overcoming the Odds. She is also the founder of Tailored Tutor Language Services.
With OVERCOMER, she transforms her memoir into a moving stage experience of tragedy, trauma, and triumph, touring Atlanta, Albany, Augusta, Birmingham, Jackson, Shreveport, and Tyler in Spring 2026.
