Surrey Publisher Launches Crowdfunding Campaign to Secure Future of Independent Publishing
S For Story/10656643
ASHFORD, U.K. - s4story -- Dawn Hill Publications, a Surrey-based independent press, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £10,000 in support of its long-term mission: publishing bold, inclusive fiction by new and underrepresented voices.
Since 2019, Dawn Hill has built a reputation for delivering compelling, character-driven stories, from contemporary romance to gripping thrillers, by authors who often sit outside the mainstream. The press has published work by award-winning author Kyra Radcliff, along with bestselling names like Ravina Hilliard and Mark Ravine. It has also supported a new generation of emerging writers, including Soleil Collins, Katie Eff, and Eleanor Montague.
With demand for fresh, diverse voices growing, Dawn Hill is ready to scale its impact. But the realities of running a small press in an industry dominated by large publishers have made long-term sustainability a challenge.
"This is the first time we've ever asked for help like this," said founder Ravi Venkatamaran. "We've poured everything into Dawn Hill to get to this point, but we can't take the next step alone. This campaign is about more than this year's titles. It's about making sure Dawn Hill is still here in 2027, 2030, and beyond."

The crowdfunding campaign, hosted on Crowdfunder.co.uk, will help the team continue to pay authors fairly, publish original new work, and build the infrastructure needed to support independent writers for years to come. Supporters can choose from a range of rewards, including e-books, signed paperbacks, and limited-edition bundles.
While major publishing houses continue to dominate shelf space, funding, and media attention, independent presses like Dawn Hill remain vital for innovation in British literature, often being the first to take risks on new voices and unconventional stories. But with rising costs and limited resources, many small publishers are finding it increasingly difficult to survive.
"We've always believed in publishing with care and courage," said Venkatamaran. "Now, we're inviting our readers, writers, and community to help us keep doing that—for the long haul."
The campaign is live now, hoping to be able to announce a stretch goal of £15,000 to strengthen long-term capacity and extend opportunities to even more authors.
