The Citadelle Art Museum Announces Two Professional Development Opportunities for Texas Teachers
S For Story/10693751
AMARILLO, Texas - s4story -- The Citadelle Art Museum is pleased to announce two professional development opportunities for Texas K-12 teachers this summer, both held in The Gallery at The Citadelle Art Museum in Canadian, Texas. Each session is designed for educators across every grade level and every discipline, with a Certificate of Completion provided for teachers seeking PD hours.
Both sessions explore how visual art can deepen student understanding of complex subjects, from the weight of history to the influence of design and advertising on culture and consumerism. Tickets for each event are $20 and include a light breakfast and coffee.
Holocaust Stories: Survivors' Voices | Friday, June 19, 2026 | 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This professional development event offers new perspectives on teaching the Holocaust through visual art and the eyes of young people. Designed for teachers of all subjects and grade levels, the session provides educators with thoughtful approaches to this challenging topic. This PD will provide useful lesson ideas that are both interdisciplinary and suitable for vertical adjustments within the content area.

Survivor stories and visual art will serve as entry points for helping students engage with difficult history in ways that are honest, age-appropriate, and lasting.
Art Deco Through the Eyes of an Illustrator | Wednesday, July 8, 2026 | 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The Citadelle Art Museum presents this PD opportunity for Texas K-12 teachers. The era between WWI and WWII saw vast changes in America and Europe. From the Pandemic of 1920, to the party that was "The Roaring Twenties", to innovations in construction such as reinforced concrete, and mass-produced aluminum, and then the Great Depression, America saw a transformation that allowed form to follow function, in even the most modest lives. Modernizations in production increased, allowing everyone to enjoy amazing architecture, furnishings, fashion, and all forms of Art.
At The Citadelle Art Museum, we are fortunate to have 3 works by one of the greats of Illustration during the Art Deco period, J.C. Leyendecker, as well as one painting by his mentee (and subsequent master of American Illustration), Norman Rockwell. This PD opportunity will focus on how Art became more than just Art, becoming a driver for new consumerism, communication, and influence in America.
