WAUKESHA, Wis. - s4story -- Motherhood is an all-encompassing role. One of selflessness and self-discovery. That is the core message of Don't Let Me Keep You, the latest novel from award-winning author Kathie Giorgio.
Meet Hildy Halverson, a genius in science and math, encouraged by her parents to step into a male-dominated field and change the world for women. But enamored of the scientific force of the human body and her own body's ability to create and sustain life, Hildy decides contrary to contemporary expectations, that the best way to change the world is not through her abilities, but through her children.
Hildy wants her children to choose their own life paths. Despite her efforts to not influence them, Hildy does so, often in unexpected ways. As the struggles, joys and fatigue of motherhood are captured in the full panorama of family life, Hildy lovingly raises her children, then lets them go, finding herself along the way.

From her writing studio in Wisconsin, Giorgio says of her novel, "This isn't a book about "just" motherhood, because there is no "just" in motherhood. There is only "all" in motherhood. We give more of ourselves to our children than we do to anyone else. We want to tell them everything, teach them everything, help all their hurts, keep them from being hurt in the first place. And then, when they're adults, they are still the center of our universe, but we are no longer the center of theirs. We have to find out who we are, all over again."
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
KATHIE GIORGIO is the award-winning author of eight novels, two story collections, an essay collection, and four poetry books. Her most recent books include Hope Always Rises, All Told, and Olivia in Five, Seven, Five: Autism in Haiku. Giorgio's work has earned the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Library Association, the Pencraft Award for Literary Excellence, and the Eric Hoffer Award in Fiction as well as Pushcart Prize nominations in fiction and poetry. In addition, her short fiction and poetry have been published in numerous literary journals, incorporated into art exhibits and performed on stage at the Su Teatro Theatre by Stories on Stage in Boulder, Colorado. The founder and director of Allwriters' Workshop and Workplace, an international creative writing studio, Kathie lives in Waukesha, Wisconsin near her children and granddaughter with an eccentric dog named Ursula and a rescue cat named Oliver.
