Visa Center Introduces RCMP Certificate for Canadians Relocating to Spain
S For Story/10698349
Toronto service coordinates the RCMP criminal record check, Hague Apostille and Spanish translation required for many Spanish residence and long-stay visa applications
TORONTO - s4story -- TORONTO, Ontario - Visa Center has introduced an RCMP Certificate for Spain service for Canadians planning to work, study, retire or establish long-term residence in Spain.
Applicants for many Spanish national visas and residence permits must provide a Canadian criminal record certificate. Spanish consular instructions generally require the certificate to carry a Hague Apostille and be accompanied by an official Spanish translation.
The new Visa Center service helps applicants coordinate the principal stages of preparing the document:
An ordinary local police check should not automatically be considered equivalent to an RCMP-certified fingerprint-based criminal record check. The correct document depends on the applicant's visa category and the requirements of the Spanish consular office handling the application.

"Many applicants believe that obtaining a local police check completes the requirement," said Alexei Selivanov, owner of Visa Center. "In reality, the type of certificate, the apostille and the Spanish translation all matter. A mistake at any stage can delay the entire visa or residence application."
A Canadian criminal record certificate is requested for Spanish immigration categories including employment, study, non-lucrative residence, digital nomad, entrepreneur, research and certain family applications. Applicants may also need police certificates from other countries where they have previously resided.
Global Affairs Canada states that RCMP certificates issued by RCMP headquarters in Ottawa do not require prior notarization when they contain the prescribed signature and official RCMP dry seal. Spanish authorities may nevertheless impose additional requirements concerning the certificate's format, translation and permitted age.
Visa Center recommends that applicants plan the process carefully. Fingerprinting, RCMP processing, apostille issuance, translation and document delivery each require time. At the same time, applicants should not order the certificate too early because Spanish authorities may accept criminal record certificates only within a specified validity period.

Common mistakes include ordering the wrong police check, failing to obtain an apostille, translating the certificate but not the attached apostille, using an unacceptable translation or overlooking certificates required from other countries of residence.
